Bringing together residents, organisations and community groups to tackle the climate and ecological emergencies
Are you a group or organisation with a local interest in the Forest of Dean?
FODCAP is open to all organisations in the Forest of Dean, for example: businesses, community groups, charities, NGOs, parish and town councils, housing providers, schools, colleges and universities and trade unions.
Human activities, mainly through the burning of fossil fuels, are causing climate change. The 2018 IPCC Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5°C showed that a global temperature rise above this level significantly increases the risk of extreme weather events and damage to ecosystems vital to humans and other species.
Globally, the six hottest years on record have all occurred in the last six years. The UK is already experiencing more frequent and extreme weather events such as floods and heatwaves. Such impacts have been heavily felt in the Forest of Dean and the wider Gloucestershire area, which has suffered some of the worst flooding in the country in recent years.
What's The Solution
Many of the technological solutions needed to address climate change are already available. What is needed now is increased coordinated action that brings together local people, businesses and organisations to effectively tackle the problem together and catalyse the rapid change required to avoid catastrophic levels of global warming.
